Washington, D.C., July 5th, 2007. The landings 5 art project opens today at its midpoint at the Art Museum of the Americas in Washington DC. Involving thirty three artists from twelve nations (Belize, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Aruba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Cuba). landings 5 is a contemporary celebration of visual art from the Caribbean and Central America.
The landings project comprises ten exhibitions (America, Asia, Europe) and is organized and produced from Belize. It started in 2004 at Conkal Arte Contemporáneo (CAC), Yucatan, Mexico and continued in 2006 at the Centro de Artes Visuales (CAV) in Merida, Mexico. One year ago landings tres opened at the Centro León, Santiago de Los Caballeros, Dominican Republic. In March 2007 landings 4 opened at the Museo de Arte y Diseño Contemporáneo (MADC), San Jose, Costa Rica.
The Art Museum of the Americas located just yards from the Washington monument is an early 20th century building established as a museum in 1976. landings 5 is an exhibit that brings together young artists from the two regions in a spirit of collaboration, exploration and exportation of contemporary culture projecting a new hope and vision from the people’s of that area. landings 5 comprises works of photography, video, printmaking, installation, textile, painting, sculpture, collage and mixed media.
The exhibit opens at 6 pm this evening and will be on view until the 16th of September. On the 20th of July the catalogue-book will be presented at the museum.

The museum opens from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM.
